2017
Firstly east coast and now to the west, and to Ayrshire, for the 2nd Squires' Trophy on Scottish soil. It was the year of newcomers with no fewer than 5 new additions to the field (4 Scots) and 7 players who were not at ST16 (including the return of Neil and Stee). Three tough courses lay in wait and it was local man Gordie who took the lead at Glasgow Gailes with a fine round and 2 shot victory from Colin. Mick and Crooky were tied 3rd a further stroke back. Western Gailes proved to be the favourite of the weekend and it was low man Colin, who built on a good score at Glasgow with a strong back 9 to win by 3 from Mick with Kevski with Squire a further shot back. Colin had now built up a 4 shot lead from Gordie and Mick going into the final day with Crooky 2 strokes further back. This was the 2nd year in a row that Gordie and Mick had secured a place in the leading pack for day 3. Colin proved too strong for the close contenders and pulled away with what must be said was super golf around a tough Dundonald. The Dublin-based low man became the first jock to win the Squires' Trophy, by no fewer then 10 shots, with Mick incredibly finishing 2nd for the second year in a row. Squire, playing in the penultimate group bunny-hopped Gordie and Crooky, securing 3rd place by a point from Gordie and Baz, who made a very impressive Squires debut in at ST18.
