Established 2004
The Squires' group was founded inauspiciously in Dublin, Ireland, in early 2004. A number of young Scots and Irish Financial Services professionals, all keen golfers, took to setting up a golf society for the ages. These players included Graham Eardley, David Price, Colin Donnet, Ross Kingswood and a couple of others. The society started off with monthly outings in the Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow areas but due to increasing demand and popularity annual weekend events to Portrush and Portstewart were added.
Resurrection & Focus
Due to various factors the Squires disbanded, but reformed after 6 years under the 'Squires' Trophy' banner in 2013. This was a momentous occasion with 8 golfers tackling four of Co. Donegal's finest hidden gems in the baking July sun! Thanks to a mammoth effort by original founding member, and current Captain Graham Eardley (and committee of course), the Squires' Trophy has blossomed, now boasting a strong cohort, who return annually for the golfing pilgrimage.
Many of the original Squires members from the early years have returned and are proud to be part of the newly formatted, exciting, annual event which aims to provide affordable golf, focusing on the finest Scottish & Irish links courses.
Exciting times ahead
Originally Dublin based, the Squires have grown and some now based further afield travelling from Scotland, England, N Ire, Portugal, the UAE and the USA to attend the annual bonanza!
With its progressive scoring format including the 'majors', 'The Squires' Trophy' itself and also the Ireland versus Scotland 'Squires' Ryder Cup' the event is one of the most anticipated golf competitions in the calendar. Since 2013 the Squires have contested at Rosapenna, Lahinch, Ballybunion, Gullane, the Ayrshire Gailes, Sligo, Carnoustie, Ballyliffin, Machrihanish & East Lothian with their most recent trip a return to Rosapenna the home of the 2013 resurrection in Sept 24. The Squires will be making their first venture overseas to Lisobon in Oct 2025!
