To Carnoustie, a fabulous location for the Squires' first trip to an Open venue. Three fantastic tracks lay in wait and many squires in fantastic form in the lead up to the event. The Burnside was first up and the squires 'burn'ed it up quite literally. A superb 38 from Boycey gives him a first major in his 6th ST event, but by only 1 shot from Matt who also set the heather alight with 37pts. Scotty lay 1 shot further back on 36 and only 12 shot separated the 18 men going into day 2, so no one out of it.
Day 2 and the Squires play the Carnoustie Championship, the first Open venue for the lads, what a one to win! Again, scoring was better than expected on a fairly benign day. Bazza wins the day with 35 to add to a solid round 1 score of 33 to sit on 68 and lead after 2 rounds. Joining him in the leading pack and sitting 1 back is Pricey after a fantastic total of 67. Also in the final group is Robbo and Rossco, both on 64pts.
Never has the winner come from a chasing group but this was the first year. Colin, 5 shots back after 2 rounds shoots a 1 under gross, 42 point round-of-his-life to win the ST by 2 shots from Baz, also 5 back and also in the penultimate group! Quite unbelievable scenes and scoring round the Buddon course with Robbo and Pricey 3 and 4 shots back in 3rd and 4th respectively with great scores of 36 and 32pts.
