After 2 years in Scotland it was back to Ireland for ST18 and the rugged west coast - familiar dunescapes for the Squires with ST13-15 was contested over the same shoreline. Twenty men teed up at Rosses Point - no new Squires but many return-ees from previous years. In appropriate fashion, Mr Kingswood literally made a name for himself round Rossco's Point and let the event by 1 shot from Peshi with Kevski and
Gordie a shot further back.
After a stunning 35pts tally and major win round Strandhill, Eamo built on his round 1 score of 30 to amass 65pts and take a 4 shot lead from Baz who had another steady round to lie on 61pts. Robbo and Peshi, who have very much underachieved in their previous appearances in the Squires sat on 59pts very much in reach of the leader. Donnet, Rossco, Squire and Kevski were out in the penultimate group and were all very much still in with a shout with round 2 tallies of 57, 55, 55 & 55pts respectively. In summary, there were 8 men within 10 shots of the lead.
And so Enniscrone lay in wait, a tough but fantastic test of golf on a beautiful autumnal morning. The leaders out last and was all to play for... Eamo could not maintain his round 2 form and the lead was eroded by Baz who played yet another
solid round of golf. Peshi and Robbo also wilted in the dunes and it was the group two men of Squire, Colin and Rossco who all posted solid scores to leapfrog the leaders and secure a place on the Squires' podium. In the end Baz, in only his 2nd appearance, secured the title by 3 shots from Squire who also finished 3 ahead of Colin. Rossco was 4th with an 84 total, pipping Peshi and Eamo on best last round.
