2013
Ireland 402 - 437 Scotland
Teams
Ireland - Cathal, Eamo, Kevski, Stee
Scotland - Bazza, Neil, Scotty, Squire
The result doesn't tell the whole story; the scores were pretty much neck-and-neck going into the final day until the Scots capitalised on a booze-induced Paddy capitulation, coupled with some great scoring themselves at Rosapenna Sandy Hills. A superb feat for the Jocks who win the first resurrection of the Ryder Cup on away soil.
Neil and Squire (minus Scotty & Bazza) celebrate their win with none other than OTM!
2014
Ireland 77 - 72 Scotland
Teams
Ireland - Boycey, Cathal, Eamo, Kevski, Stee
Scotland - Bazza, Big Al', Gordie, Robbo, Scotty, Squire
Scotland were sitting pretty and held a slender lead going into the last day but strong Irish scoring round Doonbeg, particularly from Kevski and Stee, meant that the Paddies won fairly comfortably in the end. Extremely disappointing show from the Jocks who were going for 2 in a row. The Ryder Cup contest stands at one win apiece for Ireland and Scotland after 2 years.
The Paddies rejoice in the Atlantic Hotel after a great win at Lahinch.
2015
Ireland win 1UP v Scotland
Teams
Ireland - Boycey, Cathal, Eamo, Kevski, Pricey, Stee
Scotland - Big Al', Robbo, Rossco, Scotty, Squire
The most incredible climax to 3 days golf - with scores even after 53 holes, Cathal secures victory for Ireland holing a nervy 12 footer for a 'twice-in-sand' bogey on the 18th at Tralee. It was a nervy last green battle versus the Squire and a winner takes all climax to the closest Ryder Cup imaginable... Ireland now winning 2 Ryder Cupsin-a-row on home soil and have the momentum going into 2016.
Well done Ireland; the lads delight in the Listowel Arms after an incredible finish at Tralee.
2016
Scotland win 2UP v Ireland
Teams
Ireland - Boycey, Carlo, Cathal, Eamo, Kevski, Mick, Pricey
Scotland - Bazza, Big Al', Gordie, Robbo, Rossco, Scotty, Squire
Most of us thought that 2015 would not be matched, but this year it was... Scotland went ahead strongly from the very start and were 5UP after the first round at Gullane No. 2. The Jocks built on this ad pressed ahead, reaching 10UP midway through the second round! Miraculously, the Irish lads won 6 holes to bring the match back to 5UP to the Scots after 36 holes; quite an incredible fight back. You could not script the drama that subsequently unfolded around Gullane No. 3. The Irish team immediately ate into the Scots' lead and levelled the match at the turn before going ahead by 1 hole for the first time in the weekend with only a few holes to play! Scotland however won a hole back and sat 1Up after 17 holes of the third round meaning that if Ireland won the last at Gullane No. 3 they would retain the Ryder Cup. It was not to be as Scotland won the last by a single shot to regain the Ryder with a final score of 2UP.
The Scots boys (minus Big Al') celebrate regaining the Ryder in the Golf Inn, Gullane.
2017
Ireland win 6&4 v Scotland
Teams
Ireland - Baz, Carlo, Cathal, Eamo, Kevski, Mick, Pricey, Stee
Scotland - Colin, Crooky, Gordie, Matt, Peshi, Robbo, Rossco, Scotty, Squire
Scotland won the Ryder back at ST16 in Gullane so they were keen to retain at Ayrshire this year. A number of the Jock stalwarts were missing, with 4 men absent from the Gullane team - Ireland on the other hand were largely unchanged with Stee returning and Baz making his debut. It was Scotland who made early inroads, and came out a whisker ahead after Glasgow Gailes with a scoreline of 1UP. At Western the Jocks made their move and won 7 of the first 10 holes to go 8UP! What happened next will likely never be seen again as Ireland won each of the final 8 holes to level the match with 18 holes to go! So it came down to the last day and it was Ireland who took advantage of the situation at Dundonald as they went 3Up at the turn. They built on this and reached dormie 5UP before winning the 14th to close out a fairly emphatic victory in the end. Congrats guys!
The Paddies produce the goods; first time on Scottish soil - well done lads!
2018
Ireland 10-11 Scotland
Teams
Ireland - Baz, Boycey, Carlo, Cathal, Eamo, Kevski, Mick, Pricey, Stee
Scotland - Bazza, Big Al', Colin, Gordie, Matt, Neil, Peshi, Robbo, Rossco, Scotty, Squire
The new Ryder format was born in 2018; a virtual competition played out on the course but cleverly adapted to be contested in the evening.
Day 1 was 'better ball' over Rosses Point and there was literally nothing in it as the Scots took a 1 point lead to go ahead 3-2 with lots to play for. The 'combined' format was in play at Strandhill and again nothing could separate the sides as Ireland won the day 3-2 to leave things standing 5-5 going into the final day!
Scotland captain Squire selected a final day singles order for Enniscrone which was designed to collect early points. They did just that as the 'Postman' Al' picked up the first points in a heated contest v Kevski. Scotty, Gordie, Neil, Squire and Rossco followed suit as the Jocks racked up an insurmountable 11-5 lead and clinched the Cup with 5 matches remaining. In quite an incredible conclusion, the Paddies literally achieved the unthinkable winning each of the last 5 games to leave the final score 11-10; but it was too late.
The Jocks celebrate regaining the Ryder Trophy in the South Beach Hotel..
2019
Scotland 8.5 - 11.5 Ireland
Teams
Ireland - Baz, Boycey, Carlo, Cathal, Eamo, Kevski, Mick, Pricey, Stee
Scotland - Bazza, Big Al', Colin, Gordie, Matt, Robbo, Rossco, Scotty, Squire
The Ryder format continued on from 2019 and this time there were even numbers with 9 v 9 (+ weasels!) in addition to a new in-running results reveal per match.
Round 1 (foursomes) produced a close contest with literally nothing in it - the day finished 3-2 in favour of Ireland. The 2nd round (fourballs) was also very equally matched and Scots managed to claw things back to 5-5 with 18 holes to play.
The singles would be all about individual performances and it was Ireland who raced into a strong lead with 3 wins from Eamo, Mick and Carlo. The Postman didn't fail to deliver and he and Colin reduced the gap to a single point. Pricey and Podge restored the Irish lead, now by 3 points. Robbo grabbed a vital point for the Scots late on but Irish Baz got the better of the 2 Barrys. Stee and Scotty then shared a point as the Paddies closed out the contest 11.5 to 8.5 with quite simply better all round golf.Â
A well deserved win at Carnoustie for the Irish team.
2021
Scotland 8.5 - 9.5 Ireland
Teams
Ireland - Baz, Boothy, Carlo, Kevski, Pricey, Stee
Scotland - Colin, Gordie, Robbo, Rossco, Squire
Ireland made a good start in the Ryder at Castlerock taking a narrow lead over the visitors 3½ - 2½. Scotland came back strongly on day 2 however winning 4-2 on the day to take a single point lead 6½ - 5½. and only needing 3 wins from the final 6 Saturday singles matches to regain the cup. Ireland only needed 3½ pts. to retain.
The Ryder finish was yet another dramatic climax - the Jocks with one hand on the trophy on the 18th tee at Glashedy and just needing to finish well to secure the win. Ireland had other ideas with Pricey and Carlo finishing strongly to oust Rossco and Robbo to tie the match 8½ - 8½ with one final match to be decided in the clubhouse; Baz v Monty! Given’s Baz’s earlier major win, a Scots miracle was needed with the dice but it wasn’t to be and Ireland secured the win, their 5th in 8 years. Well done lads!
Well done Ireland!
2022
Scotland 15 - 9 Ireland
Teams
Scotland - Bazza, Big Al', Colin, Matt, Robbo, Rossco, Scotty, Squire
Ireland - Baz, Boothy, Boycey, Carlo, Pricey, Stee
Scotland got out the traps quickly on day 1, with good wins from Rossco, Squire, Bazza, Scotty & Robbo. Score 5-3.Â
On to day 2 and again the Scots, repeated the day 1 score with strong play - wins from Squire, Colin, Matt, Bazza and Rossco saw them open up a commanding 10-6 lead.
Only a 'Miracle in Machrihanish' could turn things round for Ireland but it wasn't to be as Rossco, Scotty, Big Al', Robbo and Colin prevailed to give the Scots a much-needed Ryder win, their first in 4 years!
A strong win for the Scots at ST22
2023
Scotland 7 - 7 Ireland
Teams
Scotland - Colin, Gordie, Ross, Rossco, Scotty, Squire
Ireland - Baz, Boothy, Carlo, Kev, Pricey, Stee
Day 1 was singles and Scotland shaded it 3.5 - 2.5 with good wins from Colin, Gordie and Scotty. Squire halved with Pricey.
On to day 2 and this time fourballs with the Paddies turning things around and winning the session 2.5 - 0.5. Winning combos were Pricey/Baz and Kev/Boothy and Stee/Carlo securing a half in the other match. Score now sitting at 5 - 4 to Ireland!
Back to the singles format for Day 3 and Scotland needing 3 points from the 5 matches to retain the Ryder on home soil. Despite wins by Carlo and Stee, wins by Colin, Gordie and Squire (who managed to beat Boothy on the 18th with a 25 foot putt) were enough to level the proceedings.Â
The Scots retain the Ryder at ST23, a Squires first!
2024
Ireland 6 - 9 Scotland
Teams
Scotland - Gordie, Matt, Rossco, Squire
Ireland - Boothy, Carlo, Kev, Pricey, Stee
Day 1 was closely contested finishing 2.5 - 2.5 with Stee and Carlo winning for Ireland. BobbyMc and Rossco picked up Scotland's points with Pricey and Gordie halving.
On to day 2 and Scotland shaded it 3 - 2 with wins from Squire, Gordie and BobbyMc again. Stee and Kev kept Ireland in it with good victories.
Final day singles round Old Tom and Scotland only needed 1.5 point sto retain. Matt secured a superb half against major winner Carlo! Pricey beat BobbyMc to keep it going but Squire won the 3rd match to secure the retention. To rub salt in the Paddy wounds Gordie and Rossco also won their match to seal a fantastic win for the Scots.
In similar fashion to ST13, the Scots celebrate with Old Tom
